How Wicking Beds WorkA wicking bed consists of a water reservoir at the base (separated from the growing medium by a geotextile or mesh divider) and a growing medium above. As the soil in the growing medium dries, capillary action draws moisture upward from the reservoir — the same mechanism that draws water up a paper towel.
